Blazing Christmas: A Satirical Novel

If you liked BLAZING SADDLES, Mel Brooks' satirical motion picture western, you will probably like BLAZING CHRISTMAS. If BLAZING SADDLES offended you, then BLAZING CHRISTMAS will probably offend you even. The book is controversial, symbolic, thought-provoking and hilariously funny, possibly the most unusual novel ever written about contemporary religion. But it is the characters that will capture the attention of readers. The story is told by Mark Luther, who tells it to his dog, a Golden Retriever named Luke. He is joined by Beep Jenkins, a world famous coon hunter and tenured professor of coon hunting at the University of Oklahoma, who owns the world's best coon dog; Bum Criswell, who heads up a national movement to make riding lawnmower polo America's favorite pastime; Bobby Jack Lewis, owner of the Apocalypse Now Dating Service and former charismatic child evangelist; Ribs Davis, a black man who sues the Ku Klux Klan for denying him membership, is the token black member of the Dallas Chapter of the American Coon Hunters Association, is as an accordionist who seeks to replace Lawrence Welk, and who is credited with being the originator of polka rap; Billy Bob Raintree, an irritating lawyer to wants a statue of himself erected on the campus of his alma mater; Jimmy Joe Johnson, who sells non-producing oil wells; Bobo Harrison, a sportswriter who is a connoisseur of beer; Joe Don Barnes, a police detective; Chico Neiman-Marcus, who owns a used hubcap store; Chigger Dodgen, a jockey with 12 ex-wives and a child by each of them; Sue Beth Larsen, and wealthy realtor and psychic; Bumps Ann Grinds, a lingerie model for Fred's of Frisco; and Mary Lou Magruder, a sharp-tongued PR flak; and a man who calls himself Jesus. The man who calls himself Jesus claims to be the real Jesus, which Mark attempts to disprove. The author makes fun of everything that some people are serious about. And if anyone's character is not assassinated in some way in this novel, the author apologizes for the omission.
