Living My Life In Pieces

When I set out to put my life story down on to the page, I had already gone through extensive counseling. There is a stigma against that among black people, especially black women, but I have done the work and I can say that it is worth it.To any little girls who are in situations similar to my childhood, I would tell you to remember not to let anyone make you think that your future is inevitable. Nothing about your life is inevitable. If you are willing to look at your circumstances and your challenges and accept that solutions are possible, then you can make changes for the better.It won't happen overnight. It took me a long time to move past each of the difficult stages of my life. I needed to make some mistakes of my own and to put in tremendous work over a long period of time. All of that paid off, though. I was faithful that by keeping my dreams at the front of my mind and refusing to let any of my background define me, I could make something of my own.I did it, and you can do it too. I fell in love with a woman who is everything I could have ever asked for. She and I have built businesses together. The home that I live in is like something out of a dream. All of that is such a far cry from my beginnings, I often find myself reminding people not to feel sorry for me not to feel bad when they hear about all of the obstacles I have had to over-come.If you're struggling to see your way out of your situation, just remember that nothing is permanent - and that your piece of happiness could be only a week away.Conne B.
