An alien from a dying planet, Tuyouk lives, disguised as a magical warrior, in a primitive tribe in a dimension near Earth. On a mission to protect his people's half-human descendants from the local witches, Tuyouk has virtually abandoned his mission by falling in love with Ayana, a magical shaman from an estranged clan. He would happily give up his role as the tribe's savior just to be with her. Unfortunately, due to his many deceptions, Ayana has washed her hands of him.

Tuyouk still has the companionship of his half-witch, half-brother, Danny, but when Danny goes to the witches' city to save a young friend, and Ayana goes with him, Tuyouk goes into a tailspin of fear and jealousy. He volunteers to go with them, whether they want his help or not.

The witches' city is the domain of Tuyouk's ex-lover, Belall, who has been nurturing a virulent hatred of him for three hundred years. Belall remembers Tuyouk as an eight-foot tall, Ahman-tahki warrior, so he feels somewhat protected in his human incarnation. Ayana, on the other hand, knows nothing about his true Ahman-tahki identity, and he wants to keep it that way. His biggest fear is that Belall will somehow expose the fact that he has lied to Ayana, yet again, and that he is, in fact, the being she worships as the Black God.
