Soldier Sailor Surgeon Farmer: Autobiography of John Scott MB ChB FCS (SA)
In a time where there is prejudice, hatred, selfishness, and widespread unrest, the late Dr. John Scott tells the inspiring story of his highly benevolent and adventuresome life. A master storyteller, John begins his own story by describing his youth growing up in Northern Rhodesia revealing his love of the African people and all of humanity.
As he grew, John learned the ways of the African bush from fishing, crocodile hunting to high-powered rifles for self-defense from dangerous animals. During his education in South Africa, he gained experience in surgery from the most famous surgeons in the world including Dr. Christiaan Barnard, and would take these advanced skills to help outlying primitive African natives.
John encountered many difficulties in treating patients due to tribal disputes, one of which involved a mob of Africans who tossed a firebomb into his bush clinic where rival tribe members were working. John, who normally kept very cool, became extremely angry since they endangered his good staff's lives. He marched out alone confronting the angry mob. The mob leader explained, "No we love you, it's the others we don't like." They left peacefully after talking with John.
This and many other of his engrossing stories are in his brilliant autobiography.
