Soap making is a very old process indeed. People began to use soap all the way back in 2800 BC in the time of the ancient Babylonians. There is evidence that exists to prove that soap-like materials were produced by them. One is the formula of water and cassia oil mixed with alkali for making it written upon a clay tablet of the Babylonians, dated 2200 BC. Soap's usually created by mixing oils along with a base and some fats in contrast to combining and mixing any chemical compounds.

From the Babylonians to the ancient Palestinians, there exists evidence of soap-like substances made for cleaning and bathing purposes. But it wasn't until the advent of the Industrial revolution that making soap grew on a much larger scale. Until then, it was still produced on smaller scales and rough products were made. It was James Keir in the year 1780, who was manufacturing alkali and stumbled upon this soap-making ingredient. Later, other inventors pitched in and made use of Keir's discovery. And that is how we arrived at the latest soap manufacturing process.
