A good legacy is the hallmark of any true leadership and this book is a testament to that. A biography of Professor Akii Ibhadode that centres on his life and work as the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun, Delta State, Nigeria. (FUPRE).
The book begins with stories from his earliest days to his transformation into a master of his field and a LIVING NIGERIAN HERO. This in turn was reflected in his successes especially in his 5-year term as Vice-Chancellor of (FUPRE).
Prof. Akii Ibhadode remained incorruptible, humble and a true leader irrespective of the challenges and power struggle he faced both within and outside the university. We discussed strategies he used to handle situations related to his office, how he neutralised youth restiveness within the community and how he led and at the same time mentored his staff while remaining completely humble. This emphasises the fact that offices of authority, don't require brute force to yield results.
(FUPRE) being a young university, needed a visionary leader who is ready to stand and move irrespective of the difficulties. Professor Akii moved on in humility and brought the university to limelight while absorbing the pain that members of his staff unit brought as a result of trying to dwarf plans put in place.
We added most of his works as Vice-Chancellor which include; his vision for (FUPRE), some of his presentations, keynote addresses and much more in an appendices section which will serve as an education content for students, as a guide for all those who want to learn to mentor and train their replacement and also for aspiring Vice-Chancellors and all those who are in leadership positions. In conclusion, the appendices section will serve as a reference for those who have found the courage to mentor others in humility.
Some quotes to Bring it all to perspective
True leaders do not seek power; they rather seek to empower others.
True leadership makes itself increasingly unnecessary.
An insecure person will never train people. He will oppress people.
Mentoring is the manifestation of the highest level of personal maturity, security and self-confidence.
Your legacy is every life you've touched.
