Shame Shames and Other Stories

Seven stories. Seven women facing the changing world of post-Partition India as the fifties give way to the sixties and an old way of life slowly crumbles around them. Sham marriages are exposed, comfortable lifestyles are forcefully disrupted as factories are sold and new Indian employers have no tolerance for old colonial ways, and, worst of all, there is suddenly the imminent prospect of a return "home" to a country which is completely alien to them all.
