Before It's Forgotten: Memoirs of a Migrant - Australia 1950

In 1950 Garry Greenwood stepped ashore in Brisbane Australia with his parents and elder brother after six weeks at sea onboard a rusty and hastily-recommissioned troop carrier from England. Within a very short time and insufficiently prepared he and his family head further north on a 400 mile steam train journey to Rockhampton, Central Queensland. They are the first English migrant family to arrive in town - the first Ten Pound Poms.

Experience life in those very early days of Australia's mass-migration scheme as seen initially through the eyes of three years old Garry Greenwood as he and his family struggle to adjust and settle in such a foreign and isolated land. His first ever memories began here and now, at the age of 74, his clear and precious recollections of those days are presented herein as both an historical account and a story packed with true-life adventures. At times you may feel a little like you are riding a roller-coaster - that's because you are.

His amazing story or adventure is told with humour, innocence and peppered with adversities needing to be overcome. It also contains a valuable lesson on overcoming adversities which others somewhere in the world, and in similar circumstances, might find some solace.

"Those who are willing to be vulnerable move among mysteries." Roethke
