Empires of Men and Gods: Ascension

Erika is the first female ever chosen by Earth's J?tunn to act as Caretaker for this world, and she's not the least bit happy about it. Terrified of her awesome power over nature, she hid herself away on her family's Icelandic farm until the very existence of humankind depended upon her.

Compelled by a small, but annoying voice in her head, Ymir, she abandoned the beautiful solitude of her Nordic home to reluctantly pair with Ymir's other chosen one, Dawn. An oddity in her small rural Iowa town, Dawn had been selected by Ymir to be her Speaker. Her job is to help Erika understand the vague, and sometimes horrifying, desires of the J?tnar.

Facing the imminent loss of Earth, Erika soon discovers her incredible abilities have serious limitations. Not the least of which is her inexperience with the brutal realities of war. Begrudgingly allying herself with a technologically advanced military superpower, Erika, Dawn, and their human military rapidly evolve together as they fight for survival in an increasingly hostile multiverse.

Building their empire one solar system at a time, they struggle to stay ahead of a surprisingly insidious enemy. This enemy speaks to us much like Ymir, as a quite but influential voice in all our minds. Forcing this dark voice out into the open, they soon realize they are not prepared for the monster they unleashed.
