The Brothers of Beaver County

In the Spring of 1861, the United States was fiercely divided between the abolitionist ideals of the north, and the traditional values of the south. The seven Ahrens brothers of Beaver County, Pennsylvania found themselves on both sides of the political upheaval. While President Lincoln asked for volunteers to defend the Union, Pennsylvania was quick to answer the call, as were half of the brothers. Some would need more convincing than others, and that convincing was going to come in the form of an old friend of the family, a northerner in southern hands, Nikoletta Forslund.
