I will never forget my first experience of hosting a refugee family in my home. It was a family of three from Afghanistan who had just arrived in Canada. I was nervous, as well as excited. Owing to short notice, the suite was not yet fully furnished to receive the family. But I managed to obtain the basic necessities, except for a baby crib for the 10-day old newborn. Thankfully, with help and gifts from friends, the family settled in smoothly. This story is inspired by such adventurous, cross-cultural experiences. Experiences that opened the door of hospitality in my life.

It is also my privilege to have Rabia Kahan, a brave young lady from Afghanistan, to co-author this book. Rabia has included a story to describe herself and also a popular story from Afghanistan in the book. It is also our goal to use the proceed of this book to help fundraise for Rabia to support her family from Afghanistan to Canada.
