No one ever really knows the world is going to end until it does. April Ashton and her family sure didn't. Mother of two and a stay-at-home mom, April sent her children off to school in their New York suburb and ran her usual errands, as she always did. But when a news broadcast warned of impending nuclear war, she knew she had to act fast. On their way out of the city, she watched as their world imploded behind them. Mushroom clouds touched the sky in the rearview mirror and the Ashtons knew their lives would never be the same. The world they knew was gone, reduced to ash. After arriving at their grandparent's cabin, deep in the woods of the Appalachians, the family makes themselves a new life. A peaceful one, away from the remains of their old life, where everything they knew was dead or dying and radiation thickened the air. Over the years, the family thrived, growing accustomed to their life off the grid. Every once in a while, other survivors would pass by their camp, hiking through the forest in search of a safe place to stay, and April welcomed them. Families and individuals, each with their own survivor stories, joined the family and formed a community. One that worked together to thrive in a barren world. One unsuspected night, a hoard of attackers descend upon the compound, burning everything in their path and kidnapping every one of their children. When April awakes and finds that her children are gone, she promises to do anything she needs to in order to find them. Just how far will a mother go to protect her children? What kind of twisted individuals would kidnap an entire community of children? Both April and her children, Cam and Ainsley, will learn that this new world isn't as peaceful as they once imagined, and that if they want to live, they'll have to do everything it takes to survive.
