"Death is not what you think it is..."

The death of her sister has torn Darcy's world apart, so one fateful day she makes a decision that will change her life. Realising that the only way to make things go back to the way they had been before is to get her sister back, she decides to find Death, the one being most sensible people spend their lives trying to avoid, rescue her sister, and, to make sure no one ever has to go through the pain she has recently experienced, to kill him.

In order to try to achieve this Darcy sets out on an epic adventure in to the mystical realm of H ven where she meets a host of eccentric characters, finds herself embroiled in a quest to find the mythical Lord Vita and help him defeat the realm's returning ruler Lord Mortimer, bringer of death and destruction, and learns that this quest and her own are linked in ways she could never have imagined.

The Girl who would Kill Death is a novel about dealing with grief. Through the central character of Darcy Patten, an unapologetically strong girl on the cusp of adulthood, the reader is taken on an epic journey through a fantastical realm where only she can save the world from impending doom. However, as well as a tale of adventure and friendship, the book is also a deeper examination of grief which culminates in the revelation that, far from something to be afraid of, Death is a natural part of life.

The Girl who would Kill Death encourages children to share their emotions, confront the reality of their loss, and teaches them that they are not alone in their grief. This affirming message is not just a positive one for children and adults alike, but also means this novel can be used as a way of helping children and young adults to cope with such a momentous and life shattering events as the death of a loved one.
