The desrie to see the new world drove many Germans to seek a new life in Texas which offfered an escape from the political upheaval and police state, to say nothing of the over population, unequal distribution of wealth and conditions that would eventually result in revolt. Here then was a chance, a real chance, to improve the lives of many Germans and the future lives of their children. Such conditions in Germany proved fertile ground for the development of the Adelsvereign. The Vereign, would come to be known as the Socitey for the Protection Immigrants was organized on April 20, 1842 by twenty-one German noblemen with their goal to establish a new Germany on Texas soil, by means of an organized mass immigration. Additonally the society was to be both philanthropic and commercial by providing economic releif for the German government. They held the belief that immigration to new markets in Texas would provide markets for exports and imports for German good. Futher, the new markets would promote German maritime commerece. December 26, 1846, Heinrich Kreische and his brother Carll arrive in Galveston and made their journey inland toward their respective land grants, each receiving 400 acres on the Llano River in central Texas. Both men were stone masons and new very little about farming....and here is where the story of the Kreisches begins.
