So1o: The Acuity Trilogy Concludes

In the final installment of the Acuity Trilogy, Solo, a prototype cyborg with human intelligence struggles with his involuntary immortality. Billed as the weapon to end all wars, the tortured cyborg turns out to be a pacifist. While the military wants the creature terminated, the DigiSyncs want more cyborgs to reduce their dependence on, and to potentially replace, the unpredictable Beings wreaking havoc on the planet.
This is the age of immortals that began when Dexter Rollins tried to discover a cure for grief and the Acuity, a mental implant, was used to hijack his invention. The mind-bending technology soon spawned DigiSyncs, who upload their consciousness into the cyberverse, and TransmIDs who pro-long life by transplanting their identities into the youthful bodies vacated by DigiSyncs. Though death is optional, the Beings cherish their mortality with a religious fervor.
Survival is an iffy proposition and the earth needs a fallback plan. Melting polar ice caps, rivers routed to the splurbs, and cloud seeding over Agracorp fields, have left the interior of most continents without enough water to grow a tomato. DigiSyncs, in their infinite wisdom, never muck about with geo engineering, resource allocation or conflict resolution. The custodians of knowledge devote their massive computational power to solving riddles about space-time, and only deign to program devices for specific functions (in other words, there's no AI in the droids, no thinking toasters or smart weapons). Because mortals fear cybermind domination, and DigiSyncs prefer to leave the plight of biology to evolution, the separation is strictly enforced by both sides; they only communicate via the Acuity, they rarely cooperate and they never trust.
The autonomous cyborg has a foot in both worlds. Walking among Beings, So1o's hybrid wisdom could bridge the gap between digital and organic intelligence, but the mind inside the machine refuses to adjust-- every smile that he can't reciprocate causes spirals of despair. Dexter Rollins has also undergone a radical transformation, reincarnated as a female TransmID who is tasked with deciding the cyborg's fate.
The machines we invented to do our work have already changed what we do and how we do it. When our technology changes what we are, what will we become?
