This is a true account. Many accounts of cult involvement are dramatised but what you are about to read is what actually happened. Some names have been changed. In 1991 our son decided to use his gap year before going to University in England to travel to the United States with his friend. They were going to travel across America on a Greyhound bus, but their plans were changed when Steve had an offer to become a volunteer on a Nature Reserve on a Scottish Island. His friend Tom travelled instead to Hawaii and once Steve returned from his 3 month stay in Scotland, he packed his bags and camping gear and set off to San Francisco. His plan was to travel alone from there to Eureka, some 300 miles to the north of San Francisco and then fly onwards to Hawaii to join Tom. My fears for his safety whilst travelling and camping alone were swiftly overtaken when I discovered that he, during his brief stay in San Francisco, he had become entangled with the Unification Church, commonly known as The Moonies. I wrote this book in the hope that as well as laying some ghosts for myself, it would also help others in similar situations. There are ways and means of achieving goals and if you follow your immediate gut instincts, you can often spoil your only chance of success. Read this book and you may succeed in helping them to decide to leave.
