Invisible Voices & Their Poems: An Anthology

This anthology springs from the hearts of men who are currently incarcerated within The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. From our night discussions in Trendsetters--a class constructed to teach men the importance of economic empowerment, self-actualization, leadership skills, and principles to reimagine the communities we left behind--we created Invisible Voices. Invisible Voices unveils the trauma that leads to incarceration and the ensuing devastation of multiple years behind the walls where many slip into obscurity, never to be seen or heard of again. In the pain of the lost voice comes the cries of redemption and moments of beautiful clarity shatters the cement walls in the essence of the spoken word that so many who are confined have lost. What we have taken through violence, unclassified apprehension of peoples' safe spaces, we strive to give back by being intentional with our words. This marks the beginning of transformation. It is our hopes that our voices be brought to the forefront of your consciousness so that the connection may live and thrive beyond these pages and give greater understanding of the prisoner. By the complex simplicity of of understanding we may be able to build a world where there are no invisible people.
