Summary
In Norse mythology, there are nine realms: Niflheim, Muspelheim, Asgard, Midgard, Jotunheim, Vanaheim, Alfheim, Svartalfheim, and Helheim. In Norse mythology, the nine worlds are held in the branches and roots of the World Tree, Yggdrasil. Norse myths are darker than Greek and Roman legends. The Norse gods live on Asgard, a heavenly level where they await the impending doom that awaits them in the war that will destroy the world. The gloomy Norse notion that good will finally succumb to evil. There is heroism, which is defined as battling for good in the face of certain defeat and dying in the process. Heroes who die are celebrated in Valhalla, the afterlife for good warriors, where they sit beside gods from Asgard who, like them, must confront defeat in the end.
