Our Busy Day: A Communication Tool for Parents and Children

How many of us have children who respond 'nothing' when asked what did you do today? Or, in my area of expertise, have a child with a language delay who struggles to recall and sequence different parts of their day. I've written this book for you. In essence, it is an engaging picture book, with short rhyming text, that gently depicts boys and girls going about their everyday life. The real story however is in the communication between you and your child as you use the structure of this book to share your day with each other.

Read it together, often, and share your life, your thoughts and feelings with your child. Why? To help your children communicate, recall and open up about their day too. Before long they will become teens and young adults seeking more independence. If this book has become a cherished ritual I hope that your child will have learnt language and recall skills and that you will have learnt to communicate together and fostered deep connections.

There are language prompts at the bottom of each page and in the parent pages at the back of the book. These are based on 18 years of experience as a Speech and Language Therapist and 15 years of experience as a parent. I hope you find these useful as you use this tool to unlock the art of communication.
