I consider this book as a historical novel depicting a slave raid, preparations for it, how it transpired and its aftermath. The clash of cultures between France in Europe and Ashanti in Africa is revealed through various characters - kings, scoundrels, and gentlemen, to name a few. The action takes place on land and sea, the battles are terrible, the characters odious or endearing. On the backdrop of this adventure novel, is the slave trade and all the violence and barbarity it engendered. Hence, the book offers readers insight into one of the most horrific crimes against humanity, its justification, its motives and its aims. About 30 years ago, a young girl from the West Indies asked me a question that I couldn't answer, but which turned my life upside down: "How could anyone sell their brother?" I began a long reflection on this problem.
Part of the answer is in this book, written in two parts. Part two will be published soon. In it, I will explore the consequences of slavery more thoroughly, focusing on forgiveness and repentance, to bring together the African diaspora -those whose roots are in Africa - in mutual acceptance and esteem.
I, therefore, invite all children of Africa to come and reclaim their inheritance. Africa is a rich continent, with invaluable resources in its subsoil, which benefits the world's adventurers, trusts and rulers, but not its children. So: "Come and reclaim your inheritance!
Elembo "Roger" MONBALI was born in 1960 in Kinshasa, the capital of the DRC, Democratic Republic of Congo. As a student opposed to the dictator-president Mobutu, he came to France in 1981 to study. A keen observer of the political events gripping his country, Elembo has been active in movements advocating for a return to true democracy in the DRC.
