God put it on my heart to write this book "Shoe Leather For Our Life Journey" to demonstrate the necessity of His Word in our everyday lives in every step we take, every thought that we have, and every choice we make.
As a youngster, I accepted Jesus Christ as my savior from sin, primarily to avoid the burning fires of hell. I had no concept of a Sovereign God who loves me more than I love myself. In fact, it was many years after college that I began to realize the undeserved and unconditional love (grace) of God. I began to see that I had been in a one-sided love affair where only my Heavenly Father was bringing love and focused attention to our relationship.
In essence, I was a born-again baby who had never grown spiritually even though I was physically an adult. God began to grow and mature me in the reality of His love when my wife, Wanda, and I got involved in several Bible studies. God developed a tremendous hunger in me for His Word and I literally "ate" as much of this spiritual food as I could get from His Word and from hundreds of conservative Biblically based Christian books, commentaries, and articles.
In a few years I wanted to share with others what God was teaching me. This was the start of years and years of my teaching and speaking about our loving Heavenly Father who wants each of us to "know" Him (not "know about") so that we can have an eternal intimate love relationship with Him.
The writing in this book comes primarily from volumes of Bible study lessons and materials that I have written, accumulated, and used over years of learning and teaching God's Word. I have added "Some Personal Steps in Shoe Leather" at the end of most chapters to provide my personal involvement in some of the teachings in that chapter.
