This publication is written in memory of Darlene Antosh, a Canadian born physician whom I had the opportunity of working alongside as a peer in a family practice clinic located in rural Arkansas. It was about thirty years ago that she strongly urged me to write a book of our Southern slang since she found it to be quite humorous at the time.
I have finally compiled a collection of "isms and phrases" that I hope others will find comically entertaining and fun-filled as well. Oh, this collection is certainly not all the dialect that I have spoken or heard during my lifetime, just a collection to my recollection! And on top of that, I am sure that not all sentences or phrases are completely in alphabetic order, but they were written as they came to my mind. Take no offense anyone, please, because this is our heritage of vocabulary, and not meant to offend in anyway. So, relate, if you can, and either way, just enjoy!
It took an EF-4 tornado in 2008 that occurred in rural Arkansas to awaken my soul. Since that time, I have discovered happiness and blessings beyond my wildest dreams. The path has been a long one, but a true journey of life filled with hope and learned wisdom.
This collection of language and humor is dedicated to my parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel West, who have since passed away, entering Heaven's glory. Also, to my precious neighbor, Ms. Bee, in rural Arkansas, who took me in as an adult orphan during my darkest days of insult added to injury and a state of homelessness. She, too, has since passed away.
To my sweet daughter, Brooke, her supportive spouse, Justin, and to my husband, Rich.
Humor has extreme healing powers! It is my hope that you can smile, and belly laugh your heart into a sense of humor and relaxation that you may never have experienced in the past. Laugh on!
