The office of the deacon is given one and only one assignment in the Bible and this is to serve tables. In the final analysis, serving tables means that the deacons are to assist the pastors in mentoring and mobilizing the people of the church to their daily ministry that they might multiply according to the Lord's great commission to make disciples in all nations.
Mobilizing the body of Christ to the ministry is the one and only job of the deacons. When they fulfilled this assignment in Acts 6, the word of God increased, the number of the disciples multiplied greatly, and a great company of priests were obedient to the faith. Today's deacon ministry, in many cases, brings results in the opposite direction. The word of God is stifled, believers are not multiplying, and few if any are obedient to the ministry.
If deacons will take up the task of serving tables in the Biblical way, these kind of results can be experienced in the church again. This book opens the door of exploration into a deacon ministry that mobilizes believers in Christ to their places of service.
