This is a heartfelt story about someone who lived in London and couldn't wait until he could eventually escape. Ironically as the years went by, he eventually discovered that maybe it wasn't London he was running away from, but himself. Although going nowhere, our hapless hero was always in a rush to get somewhere, the only problem being, he didn't know where that was. After spending a period of three years working and living in London it eventually dawned on Gary that maybe it was time to give up, as a deep yearning from inside was calling him to return home to Kinghorn in Scotland to lay some roots and possibly settle down for good. Easier said than done, as Gary lasted all of three years until he was off again, only this time heading a further two thousand miles south to arrive on the sun-drenched island of Fuerteventura. This time luck seemed to be on his side as his life began to work out for the better and, being an ADHD-charged bundle of energy, he would become a self-depreciating entertainer who was always happy to please.
The years passed happily by when, out of the blue Nicky, his longtime girlfriend, suggested that she had always wanted to go to London on holiday. Slowly but surely the idea of returning to London after a twenty-year absence really began to excite him, as he still had warm memories and things he always dreamt of doing there. A brief conversation with his father about which restaurants to visit was the catalyst that really lit the fuse. From 2009 to 2015, after much hard work Gary and Nicky would spend a no-expense-spared, week-long holiday enjoying all of the best things London had to offer. But possibly more important than that, it allowed Gary to pick up lots of wonderful memories left from twenty years earlier as they travelled through the rich veins of London.
If you enjoy London, you'll love Gary's hilarious observations and thoughts as he and Nicky spend some high-tempo holidays staying in their favourite hotel, right in the heart of Piccadilly.
