-------------------------------- In 1842, the U.S. Supreme Court had to decide on whether a runaway slave woman (Margaret Reilly) would be free by living under the laws and within the boundaries of an abolitionist state (PA), or the prevalence of the slave-owner's claims under the federal constitution and interstate commerce. Escaping through the labyrinth of Underground Railroad routes, Margaret Reilly flight to liberty, confronts the escapee with a life-threatening mutiny in the vessel "Creole", Cherokee's Negro slavery, and a U.S. President's (Tyler) attempt to grant federal pardon to a bounty hunter tried and convicted of kidnapping and delivering her to the master slave owner. This same President had fathered several daughters with his "preferred" slave and sold them to pay for White House's expenses. Hundreds of Underground Railroad abolitionists risked their lives, in a seemingly no-win struggle, to smuggle slaves to their freedom, when the case of Prigg v Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, 41 U.S. 539 (1842) is argued before the court. The woman, who grew under her imposed slave name of Margaret, finds that Bathika, her true identity, is her only way to liberty. This is her story.
