Light and dark. Life and death. Good and bad. All things in balance, or so the laws of the universe say. But laws are made to be broken.

Darkness is growing once more, its tendrils spreading throughout the cosmos, and with the closing of the great gate, few remember the face of The Nightmare. Or the price paid for their lives. Why save those that won't save themselves?

Because that is what Palos has trained his whole life to do, his actions and mind groomed since childhood and with his sixteenth birthday approaching, the deadline for his ascension is closing fast. A life of power and servitude await, and Palos will do whatever he can to avoid the fate of those who fail, even if it means turning to forbidden magics. For the world needs his strength now more than ever, and he will pay any price to have it.
