Johan is overcome with despair and has lost all hope when his buddy Kevin introduces him to Jesus. Through his newfound faith, he finds comfort and strength. Johan perseveres, finishes his coursework, and receives his Ph.D. because he refuses to quit. Johan returns to Kinshasa with a renewed commitment to excellence, Christian ideals, and discipline to improve his native land. He succeeds in business and uses his position to encourage other young people to have big dreams and put their faith in God. The journey Johan took from poverty to academic accomplishment, the death of his father and the ensuing spiritual crisis, and Johan's victorious return to Kinshasa to uplift and inspire others are some of the major events. The hero's will to bring about change in his native country and the story's emphasis on the strength of faith and redemption make it unique.
