Growing up in a military family, Neil and Dawn Dougan had minimal chances to make long-term friends. Dawn has always idolized her big brother, but after taking too many painkillers to nurse a teenage hockey injury, Neil has spiraled down a dark path and becomes a man Dawn no longer recognizes. Desperate to save her brother, Dawn takes a risk to seek out the one person she thinks can help.

Blaine Noble is the captain of the Harvesters, the brand-new rising stars of professional hockey. His rising popularity has painted him as half golden boy, half playboy. He is also Neil's oldest, most consistent friend and Dawn's first crush.

After a happy reunion, Blaine is more than willing to try to save his friend. After all, Blaine's dream was to have Neil on the team with him, yet despite his best efforts, Neil had been nowhere to be found.

After initially fighting their efforts, Neil starts to come around. Still, the more time Dawn and Neil spend connecting with their old friend, the more dangerous it becomes for themselves, their loved ones, and Blaine's hero reputation, not to mention Dawn's heart as all those old feelings return.
