The Bible is full of surprises. No matter how often I read a chapter, a story, or a verse, I discover new things. I heard the Christmas story over and over as a child and loved it. When I became a Christian, the story came alive. I was awed by God's perfect plan. He surprised Mary, a naive teen who said "yes" to an angel, God's messenger. God chose Joseph, a carpenter, to be Jesus's adoptive father. His qualifications were a humble and obedient heart. Jesus was born in a stable instead of a palace. He stooped down from his throne to be born just like the people he would die for. The surprises go on and on.
I want you to enjoy the Christmas season with a deeper understanding of God's plan for humankind and your life. As you start the new year, I pray you will be more confident of how he chose you and needs you to expand his Kingdom. In this Advent season, let yourself be awed by new aspects of his Word and connect them to your life and calling.
