When Merganser "Merk" McNeap is fired from his restaurant job, owner Big Barry Turnyipp won't pay him what he is owed.
Barry's Asian competitors suspect his restaurants are using their stolen secret recipes.
Barry's mother, Big Momma, is angry that he might be cheating. She is also learning to cast spells since she likes to make everybody do what she wants.
Merk tries to lift Barry's wallet to get the money he is owed, but gets Big Momma's wallet instead. And a curse that makes her wallet stick to his hand so he must try to keep the wallet hidden to avoid awkward questions.
Merk learns it was Big Momma who cursed him and that he must do something good for her to break the spell. He goes to find her as the Asians set off to kidnap her to force Barry to talk to them about the recipes issue. Merk thwarts the Asians, but ends up in a canvas sack in her place.
The Asians find Merk in the sack as Barry burst in to rescue his mother. She now arrives and insists on hearing the Asians' case. Merk suggests a solution that all agree to.
Big Momma rewards Merk with money to take his girlfriend to dinner - then starts planning her next spell on him since she enjoyed hassling him so much.
