This bilingual publication has the dual objective of describing how an elderly couple faced the social isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic and of facilitating reading comprehension in English or Portuguese, depending on the reader's interest.

Depois de haver publicado, em 2022, "Um casal de idosos no tempo do v?rus" e sua vers?o em Ingl?s "An elderly couple in the time of the v?rus", o autor lembrou de seus estudos de Ingl?s, quando exercitava a leitura desse idioma em livros did?ticos sem ter lido antes os textos correspondentes em Portugu?s, o que, certamente, facilitaria a compreens?o da leitura. Pareceu-lhe, portanto, que, com as duas publica??es, pessoas que, entendendo Portugu?s, quisessem exercitar sua leitura em Ingl?s, poderiam ler, cr?nica por cr?nica, primeiro no livro em Portugu?s e, a seguir, no livro em Ingl?s. E vice-versa, aquelas que leem Ingl?s poderiam exercitar sua leitura em Portugu?s com procedimento semelhante. Considerando o inconveniente da pessoa ter de mudar de livro com frequ?ncia, o autor decidiu reuni-los em uma s? publica??o, intercalando as cr?nicas correspondentes.

After having published in the year of 2022, "Um casal de idosos no tempo do virus" in Portuguese and its respective English version "An elderly couple in the time of the virus", the author recalled his English studies, when he improved his English reading skills by reading textbooks that were not read previously in Portuguese. Certainly, it would facilitate the reading comprehension. The author considers that publishing the chronicles in both languages, side by side, the Portuguese language readers will be able to exercise their reading comprehension in English, chronicle by chronicle, reading first in Portuguese and then subsequently in English. Similarly, the English language readers will be able to practice their Portuguese reading comprehension in the same manner. Therefore, avoiding the inconvenience of having to frequently change the books, the author decided to collect them into a single publication, interspersing the corresponding chronicles.
It is important to consider that the subject of the book, the lives of people during the terrible pandemic that ravaged the entire world, is of general interest and has historical value.
