The Unexpected Poetess is a compilation of poems collected over the years. Sherry has included poems she wrote herself, along with several from other authors. While Sherry thoroughly enjoyed writing her own, she found great satisfaction in those written by others. They are poems to be read over and over.
In looking over other poetry books, the author realized many are strictly one poem after another with little discussion of the meaning behind the poem. However, there is often a specific incident that inspires the writing of any given poem. In The Unexpected Poetess, the author shares her thoughts and feelings at the time of the writings, in the form of a prelude before each poem and a Bible verse that correlates with the poem. The author knows all too well that God has given her the gift of writing, therefore she has chosen to include His word in her writings as well. The Unexpected Poetess is divided into three parts- Part I: Poems for Fun are poems that are lighthearted and humorous, with the typical sing song rhyming rhythm to them that we all learn as children. They are lighthearted and humorous. Part II: Reflections of Me are poems that resonated personally with the author in some way. They came about due to her own insightfulness, trying to understand herself and put her own thoughts into words. Part III: Praise contains poems of praise to her Lord and God. They are poems that gives one pause as the author conveys understanding and meaning onto the Christian way of life. In publishing this book of poetry, Sherry is hopeful that her style of creating a poetry book with an accompanying prelude will give the reader a more intimate look at the poem itself as well as a more profound understanding of who the author is.| Author: Sherry Durdan Diederich |
