This study is the fruit of several weeks of discussion among a group of Christian friends at our local church. It is not intended to be an academic document, but more of a personal document, created in particular to help members of the group reach a better understanding of one of the 'hot topics' of the day. As a man reasonably happy to be identified as a disciple of Jesus Christ, I felt the need to work through again what we mean by 'God' and where that fits into our everyday life. We tried to perhaps 'rediscover' what it means to be human, especially reviewing our sexuality and 'LGBTQ+' issues. We also discussed what we mean by 'Church', where everything seems to get confused! We cannot 'reinvent the wheel'. Church is what it is, even if at times it reflects badly on its boss! The church, as defined in the New Testament, is always going to be rather exclusive. It is made up of real people often referred to as 'saints'. It is not presented as though it is a mystic mass comprising loosely associated molecules of air. It has substance. It is both a living organism, like a handsome tree, but may also be likened to a rough pile of stones. Some would even describe Church as a perpetual building site! Maybe in this book I am saying something a little different, taking a slightly different approach to that offered by others.
Each reader will be the judge of that. So long as we find some clarity and a greater measure of faith and love to share around, Jesus Christ will be honoured and I suspect God will be really chuffed!
