Dear Black Woman Say a Little Prayer
Dear Black Woman Say a Little Prayer
This poetry collection is the fifth book in the "Dear Black Woman" poetry series. It was written in the year 2023, a year that brought with it an upheaval of emotional events that began in January with the unexpected and traumatic death of the author's father. To help channel personal feelings of grief, helplessness, and frustration, this collection contains poems that capture the author's reaction to some impressionable world and family events.
This collection focuses on the plight of the Black woman in America, and it also acknowledges some recent events that left indelible impacts on the author, including the Montgomery, Alabama Riverfront brawl-the day Black folks fought back, the realities of war in 2023, the continued degradation of the truth, both online and on air, the childlike behavior of politicians, the ongoing epidemic of gun violence in this country, the continued fight over a woman's right to control her body, and the undeniable effects of climate change. Despite this onslaught of negativity, there were times of exhilaration. This collection captures moments of both joy and pain while simultaneously celebrating Black women.
