I'm Kat Guerrero, and I was born and raised in the California Bay Area, and moved to western Wisconsin in 2014. I began my career in the transportation industry at the age of 19. Since then, I've been an office manager, a service manager, a parts manager, an assistant parts director, a service advisor, and a corporate procurement manager. I've been in the transportation industry for 37 years, in only 4 different companies.
The COVID 19 pandemic gave everyone a better understanding of how a disruption in the supply chain can affect our day-to-day lives with many basic product shortages. But the supply chain is not only made up of links in the chain, like trucks, trains, planes, and ships... it is also made up of people who must run those modes of transportation, and those who fix the assets to keep them going. We've had an on-going shortage of truck drivers and diesel technicians, and we need to inform our youth about these rewarding and satisfying careers. There's always the chance that a critical shortage of personnel can cripple our supply chain.
I've networked with people who are campaigning to bring back the trades, to normalize the trades, and to introduce truck driving simulators and training courses in high schools. But I believe we must start at a younger age to introduce these trades and careers to our children, so they are aware of how crucial they are to our society.
Please join me in spreading the word, and informing our young people of how important these occupations are. Read to the children and help to get these stories in libraries and schools. Maybe even tell your own stories.
I will touch on other important skilled trades because all of these careers keep our society running behind the scenes. Thank you for your support, and happy reading.
