Ethnomedicinal Plants of Thar Desert

The book is based on medicinal plants grown in the extreme conditions of the Thar Desert in Rajasthan state. The plants have several metabolites like carotenoids, flavonoids, glucosinolates, phytoestrogens, alkaloids, glycosides, steroids, essential oils, colors, lattices, tannins, and vegetable oils that make them helpful in Siddha, Ayurveda, Amchi, and Unani from ancient times. In the desert, various tribes and ethnic groups survive by using medicinal plants with their traditional knowledge. They may survive in difficult circumstances and use plants for food, fodder, fuel, traditional remedies, and a variety of other products. Brief information about some important plants was collected and added to the book. The book is helpful to students, research scholars, technicians, and scientists working in this field. Each plant is represented by its introduction, classification, habitat season and climate, origin and distribution, plant description, phytoconstituents, cultivation and propagation, phenological characteristics, pharmacological, traditional, and socioeconomic uses, or significance to the community. The book is written easily so that both technical and non-technical personnel can understand the subject matter.
