Blind But See

"What's your name, sweetie?" the woman asked her in a soft and low voice.

"Contessa," she answered. "I am not available for adoption."

"Why not, sweetie?"

"I am blind, and tomorrow I'll be of legal age to leave this place that I've called home for the past eighteen years."

"No one has ever adopted you in all these years, sweetie?"

"No, ma'am."

"That's a shame. You're such a beautiful young woman and probably very bright as well," said the woman. "Would you like to come live with me?"
