Dholuo is an interesting language that can be used to communicate in a plain manner. However, there are instances when the listener is invited to think deeply about the words heard, especially when the message being conveyed is encoded in parables and words that, if taken literally, would seem ridiculous due to their hidden meanings. The aim of these proverbs is for the listener to think deeply and draw inferences from whatever is being discussed. The person from whom the proverb comes essentially invites the listener to extract key lessons and apply them repeatedly to various life situations. This book is a sincere attempt by me, Marilyn, to present proverbs I heard my father, Ahonobadha, repeat over and over as he provided guidance on how to navigate the various challenges life would throw my way. Ambrose Ahonobadha was born in 1944 and died in 2024. For more than four decades, I had the privilege of hearing these proverbs straight from my father's mouth. This book is a project that began when my father was still alive and has come to fruition now, that he is no longer on this side of heaven. It is my sincere hope that through these pages, you will find a gem or two to light your path as you navigate the ever-changing journey of life.
