A fictitious story of a young Navy firefighter who becomes injured fighting a warehouse fire and almost dies when the roof collapses on him. This young man faces a medical discharge and travels home while his wounds heal. At home, his mother, a nurse, urges him to come to the hospital where she works and speak with a terminally ill veteran. The young man befriends the terminal veteran, as the veteran mentors him about the war he faces upon discharge.
