"Every breath was a war between what was right and what had to be done. "

After her failed assassination attempt, Elaura flees to the protection of the Caprician army to take her place as the rightful Queen of Delta. Under the tutelage of the admiral of the Caprician forces, she learns the ropes of leadership while trying to align the current rules with the way she believes her father would have treated the people and how things are done. She wants to do what's right for her people. No matter what side of the war they fall on.

Tourelle, however, is left to pick up the pieces after the attempted assassination. Elaura, the young lady he'd tutored into a successful soldier, claimed to be the sole survivor of the massacred royal family. Knowing the caliber of person she is, he can't help but wonder if he is serving the rightful ruler or a tyrant? With his family's safety at stake, now more than ever, Tourelle must tow the line with his future father-in-law and still find time to plan a future with his fiancee.

Caught between what he believes to be right and the things he must do to protect his family, will Tourelle stay true to his ideals or become a monster of necessity to protect his sister?

One thing is certain. Everything is about to change.
