A civil rights attorney creates an out of prison live work program that goes haywire when the Christian right disagrees. It gets even worse when the post convicts make an archeological find in the foothills of the central Sierra region of California. Long ago it was written of a legendary sleeping Buddha that had never been found. The convicts find it while digging for boulders. They forge an unexpcted tie with the Peoples Republic of China. They give The Sleeping Buddha to its rightful owner, which sends the Christain Right into orbit: "Convicts and Communists? Oh my."
