Letters written home by R. Robert Cadmus from 1943-45, reveal, on a personal level, the struggles of a WWII enlisted army serviceman starting with Boot Camp and ending with the surrender of Japan. Cadmus landed on Omaha Beach, D-Day, driving a Sherman tank. Drove the first tank onto German soil. Awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Croix de Guerre, Marksmanship, European-African-Middle Eastern, Good Conduct medals ... helped liberate the concentration camp at Nordhausen, Germany. Survived the loss of 7 tanks to enemy fire, was wounded several times and, like many others, still had shrapnel in him when he died. His daughters found more than 300 letters kept hidden away in a wooden box until after his death.
