This book focuses on economic crises as they relate to finance, from Tulipmania in the Netherlands to the 2021 margin call on Akegos Capital.
Volume 1 provides an overview of economic crises and the basic concepts behind them, from their origins and causes to their course, consequences, and impact.
It also includes explanations of specialized theories, such as monetary and financial theory, but focuses on specific examples of economic crises and explains that economic crises often recur due to the same causes.
Volume 2 focuses on full-blown economic crises and examples of financial fraud, centered on Ponzi schemes.
It covers the three major European bubbles in the Netherlands, France, and the United Kingdom, as well as the 19th-century Latin American investment frenzy, the railroad speculation in the United Kingdom and the United States, the Panic of 1873, and the Florida real estate speculation in the early 20th century. In addition, the book includes lesser-known cases of financial fraud in Korea, including Ponzi schemes and Madoff schemes.
Volumes 3 and 4 will cover the Great Depression, the IMF bailout of the UK, Soros' attack on the British pound, German unification and inflation, the launch of the Euro and Germany's growth, the bursting of the Japanese bubble, the IMF bailout of South Korea, the bankruptcy of Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers, the global financial crisis, the Greek fiscal crisis, the Akegos Capital margin call, and more.
