Esther Riehl loves her job as the village schoolteacher and is especially looking forward to the annual school Christmas play. She always has such fun setting up the sets, and this one may be the best yet. But when her brother Henry falls ill with the flu, Esther finds herself in a bind. She can't complete the sets alone, and Henry is in no condition to help her.

So when Jonah Schrock shows up suddenly in town offering to help her, Esther is torn. She cannot get the sets ready on her own-but working with Jonas might be worse than having no play at all. After all, Esther has worked hard to heal her heart, which was broken when he left the village with no word of explanation two years ago. Esther cannot deny she still has feelings for Jonah, but can she find a way to forgive him, as well?
